Buffalo Encounter

We hiked a three mile loop at the end of this Wilderness Loop where you can drive through and see wildlife, sometimes up close. We saw a couple herds of Pronghorn, Burros, some Bison off in the distant. We didn't see any herds around at the trail head so we figured it would be safe to enter and not feel like we were coming up on any wild animals.

So, we finish this beautiful hike crossing a creek a few times and squeezing through fences. We came up on a Wild Turkey mom and her chicks. Wow, where is the bow and arrow. We could have turkey dinner tonight! The babies were cute jumping through the tall grass to keep up with their momma turkey. We came out of the trees and tall bushes to see a herd of buffalo headed right for us on the other side of the road. One lonely bull decided to cross the road toward us. We piled the kids into the van as quickly as possible trying to keep Henry from seeing this massive beast just in time for it to saunter across in front of us and clomp down the very trail that we literally just came out of.I know for sure that I would never want to have an encounter with a Bison. It had his eye on us the entire time it walked past. Victoria was very excited. Her favorite animal is a Bison. Though she calls them " Bi-un".

Wow! What an experience. A little bit too close for comfort, but something to remember the hike by.
